Alexa Manning Qualifies for NCAA Regional

Virginia’s Alexa Manning threw a personal-best 14.34m (47′ 0.5″) in the shot put at the Penn Relays, a 15″ improvement from her previous best throw, and qualified for the NCAA regional meet in the process. She earned second place at the meet. Teammate Meghan Briggs also threw a personal-best mark, tossing a 45.84m (150′ 4.5″) and taking fifth.
Manning moved up to the no. 4 position all-time at Virginia in the shot and is just the fourth person in school history to throw 47 feet. Briggs moved to no. 5 all-time in school history and is just the fifth Cavalier to toss 150 feet.
Teammate Erin Crawford took fifth in the 400 hurdles, running a 58.61. Action at the Penn Relays will continue tomorrow (April 27) as ACC Champion Yemi Ayeni leads a strong contingent of Virginia throwers; All-American Tomika Ferguson will jump, and the Cavaliers will compete in a number of relays.
