Charlottesville, VA – Former Virginia football standouts Jason Snelling and Marcus Hamilton were back-to-back picks during the seventh round of the 2007 National Football League draft Sunday. Snelling, a fullback, was selected by the Atlanta Falcons and Hamilton, a cornerback, was chosen by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It marked the 24th consecutive year a Virginia player has been drafted by an NFL franchise.

Last season Snelling moved to tailback and led Virginia in rushing with 772 yards. He finished his Cavalier career ranked 27th in rushing with 1,324 yards. He was fifth among all UVa running backs with 84 career receptions for 775 yards. He posted the most rushing yards by an ACC fullback in both 2004 and 2005. He graduated in May of 2006 with a degree in anthropology and played as a graduate student in 2006.

Hamilton finished his Virginia career with 15 interceptions which ties as the 13th best total in ACC history and tied with third on UVa’s all-time list with Ronde Barber. He was a second-team All-ACC pick as a junior and senior. He finished with 185 career tackles, the second highest total by a UVa cornerback. He completed his undergraduate degree in sociology in December of 2005 and played as a graduate student in 2006.

Several other Virginia players are expected to sign free agent contracts following the 2007 NFL Draft.
