HONOLULU, Hawaii – Several members of the Virginia swimming class of 2011 had impressive performances at the National Club Swimming Association’s All-American meet, held earlier this month at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Honolulu. It was the inaugural meet, which features the top club swimmers from around the country.
Hannah Davis (Toano, Va.) was high point runner-up in the women’s meet, winning one event and finishing second in two others. Matt McLean (Sterling, Va.) won a pair of events in the men’s meet, and Tim Hayes (Coopersburg, Pa.) recorded a top-three finish.
On day one of the meet, McLean won the 200 free in a time of 1:55.52. On the women’s side, Davis finished second in the 50 free in a time of 26.90. She was also a member of the East team’s victorious 200 free relay team.
The following day, McLean swam a personal best 52.76 in the 100 free to win the event. In the girls’ 100 Free, Davis swam a time of 58.15 to win the event. She was second in the 50 Fly with a time of 28.83, and was a member of the East’s winning 400 free relay team. Hayes finished third in the boys’ 200 I.M., with a time of 2:13.59.
“We are extremely pleased that Hannah, Tim, and Matt did so well in the meet,” Virginia head coach Mark Bernardino said. “They were all important contributors to the East team’s success and gained invaluable experience racing against elite swimmers from across the United States.”
