CHARLOTTESVILLE – Chip Rogers, an assistant athletics media relations director at Virginia, has been named the official scorer for the 2007 International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) Under-19 World Championships. The championships are scheduled for August 4-11 in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada.
“It is an incredible honor to be selected to serve the sport of lacrosse on such a grand stage,” Rogers said. “I know USA head coach Wendy Kridel and her staff have put an incredible effort into not only selecting the 18 young women who will represent the USA at the World Championships, but also in preparing them for international competition. I am confident they will represent our nation, and particularly US Lacrosse, with the class and sportsmanship that has been the hallmark of our National Teams program for years. It is a privilege to support not only their efforts on behalf of the United States, but also the endeavors of all the athletes as they enter international competition. I look forward to watching the tournament and working to promote the spirit of the game through the 2007 IFWLA World Championships.”
Rogers has served as chair of the US Lacrosse National Teams Committee since 1998 and is a member of the US Lacrosse Board of Governors, Women’s Division. US Lacrosse is the national governing body of the sport in the United States.
Rogers was the official scorer for the 2005 IFWLA World Cup and the 2003 IFWLA Under-19 World Championships. He has also served as the official scorer for the NCAA Division I, II and III national women’s lacrosse championships on numerous occasions. He is the only person to serve as the official scorer at women’s lacrosse NCAA Championships, World Championships and the World Cup.
Rogers is the author of the women’s lacrosse statistician’s manual that is used internationally, and by colleges and high schools in the United States. He also designed the official box score for women’s lacrosse.
“It is a testament to the solid work Chip has done for the sport and his abilities in this field that he will serve as the official scorer at the IFWLA Under-19 World Championships,” said Ann Kitt Carpenetti, the Women’s Division Director at US Lacrosse. “He has served in a number of roles for the sport and is well-respected in the lacrosse community. We at US Lacrosse know he will be a great ambassador for the USA and will serve with distinction.”
