Cavaliers Enter Final Round of Topy Cup in Fourth Place

Fukushima Prefecture, Japan – The Virginia women’s golf team shot 16-over 304 during the second round of play at the Topy Cup to stand fourth in the five-team field entering Thursday’s final round of competition. The 54-hole event features two American university teams competing against three Japanese universities. The tournament is being a held at Tanagura Country Club in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan.

Lene Krog, a transfer from East Carolina, shot even-par 72 during Wedneday’s second round to top the Cavaliers. She recorded par on every hole during her round.

By shooting 6-under 282, Denver grabbed the overall lead with a 36-hole total of 582. Nihon University is seven shots behind the Pioneers. Hosei University is third at 590 followed by the Cavaliers at 603. Naguya University of Commerce is in fifth place at 621.

Krog’s score allowed her to move up to a tie for 10th overall at 3-over 147. Whitney Neuhauser carded a second-round 75 to stand 13th at 148. Carly Truitt is 21st at 154 including a second round of 79. Kristen Simpson is one shot behind Truitt in 22nd place and had a 78 in the second round. Jennie Arseneault posted an 84 and fell back to 26th overall at 160.

Yoshimi Tamura of Meiji University, playing as an independent, is first overall at 6-under 139. Denver’s Katie Kempter posted a 7-under 65 to move into second place at 140.
