Virginia placekicker Chris Gould and offensive tackle Eugene Monroe have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Players of the Week for their performance in the Cavaliers’ 22-20 win over ACC foe North Carolina Saturday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Gould received the conference’s weekly specialist award following his record-tying five field goals in the two-point win. A senior out of Lock Haven, Pa., he joins Rafael Garcia and Connor Hughes as the only players in school history to boot five field goals in one game. In addition, to making all five field goal attempts, he was also perfect on his lone extra point try. His 51-yarder in the first quarter tied the fifth-longest field goal in school history and his 32-yarder with 8:56 remaining in the game proved to be the game-winner.

The starting left tackle, Monroe was named the offensive lineman of the week for the first time in his career. The junior from South Plainfield, N.J., had a big game in paving the way for Cedric Peerman’s career-best day. Virginia rushed for a season-high 197 yards, its most in a road game in two years. The Cavaliers also compiled 22 first downs, their most in nearly two years, while quarterbacks Jameel Sewell and Peter Lalich combined to complete 66.7 percent of their passes in an efficient performance.

Virginia (2-1 overall, 2-0 ACC) hosts ACC Coastal Division rival Georgia Tech (2-1 overall, 0-1 ACC) this Saturday at noon. The game is being televised nationally on ESPNU.
