Smith Tabbed National Swimmer of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia first year swimmer Taylor Smith has been named the national collegiate swimmer of the week for Division I men, CollegeSwimming.com announced Friday.

Smith, a native of Saratoga, Calif., helped 12th-ranked Virginia to a 176-116 defeat of Clemson last weekend at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Smith claimed wins in the 1000 free (9:16.20) and 500 free (4:29.22) and anchored UVa’s exhibition 200 relay team (1:25.67; split 21.45).

Virginia (2-1, 2-0 ACC) has a week off before traveling to University Park, Pa., for meets next weekend against Big Ten foes Michigan State (Nov. 9) and Penn State (Nov. 10).
