WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team opened play at the William & Mary Women’s Tennis Invitational on Friday in Williamsburg. The Cavaliers’ day was highlighted by a 4-0 record in doubles on the day.

In Flight A doubles, a pair of Virginia teams won to advance to the quarterfinals. The team of Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) and Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) along with the team of Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) advanced in the top flight. In the B flight, the teams of Lara Alexander (London, England) and Hampton Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) and Cathy Nimitz (Glen Allen, Va.) and Lauren Downing (Virginia Beach, Va.) both advanced on Friday.

In singles, four players won a pair of matches to reach the semifinals of their flight. Rales in Flight C, Yahner in Flight D, and Nimitz and Williams in Flight E.

Play continues Saturday in Williamsburg.
