CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s tennis team concluded play Friday in the first day of the inaugural UVa Women’s Fall Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers posted four singles wins and two doubles wins on the first day of play.

The first day was highlighted for Virginia by Lindsey Pereira (Arlington, Texas) and Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.), who both won in both singles and doubles. Pereira scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over Karolina Soor of Marshall in Flight B, while Rales won 6-3, 6-2 over Marshall’s Thaddea Lock in Flight C. Also winning in singles for Virginia was Lara Alexander (London, England), who topped Marshall’s Jessica Keener 6-2, 7-6 in Flight F and Hampton Williams (Raleigh, N.C.), who won 6-3, 6-2 over Marshall’s Yulia Kashelkina in Flight G.

In doubles, the team of Rales and Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) defeated Kellie Schmitt and Lock of Marshall 8-4 in Flight A and the team of Pereira and Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) were 8-1 winners in Flight B over Marshall’s Soor and Kashelkina.

Play will continue Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, with play starting at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
