Today’s attendance was a season-high 7,001. That is the highest figure since 7,107 fans watched Maryland play Virginia last February.
The 7,001 attendance figure also ties as the 10th-largest crowd to watch a Virginia women’s basketball game in school history.
Virginia leads the all-time series with the Hokies, 30-10.
UVa is 22-9 all-time in ACC home openers, including an undefeated 2-0 mark in conference openers at JPJA.
The Cavaliers have won their last seven games and nine of their last 10.
UVa is 22-7 all-time in John Paul Jones Arena, including a 9-1 mark this season. UVa also extended its home winning streak to eight games.
The Cavaliers won their first game of the season after being down at the half. Virginia, who trailed 24-21, is 1-2 when trailing at the break.
Virginia, who had a 41-35 advantage on the boards, is 11-2 on the season when it outrebounds its opponent.
UVa is 12-0 this year when it puts up 70 or more points on the scoreboard.
The squad’s 49 points in the second half were the most of any half this season for Virginia.
Monica Wright recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. It was the fifth of her career.
Lyndra Littles returned to the floor today after missing the last three games because of injury. She finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Virginia will plays host to Maryland at 7 p.m. Friday in John Paul Jones Arena. The game will be broadcast live on ACC Regional Sports Network.
