Andy Platt Named Director Of Event Management For Virginia Athletics Department

CHARLOTTESVILLEAndy Platt, the assistant athletics director for business operations at the University of Richmond since May of 2006, has been named director of event management in the Virginia athletics department. Jason Bauman, UVa’s associate director of athletics for facilities and operations, announced Platt’s appointment.

“I am pleased to have Andy Platt join our staff,” Bauman said. “He is a talented administrator who understands the importance of customer service and building good relationships. Andy will bring valuable experience to the department and I look forward to working with him.”

At Virginia, Platt will be responsible for directing all aspects of event management for intercollegiate athletics events and external events, providing oversight of the athletics camps program and assisting with facility management. His responsibilities will also include working with various entities to produce events, overseeing event services, budget monitoring, and working with sports programs to meet operational needs.

At Richmond, Platt served as the chief business affairs officer for the athletics department. He was also responsible for the oversight of facility management and game operations, and the management of all athletics camps and clinics.

Prior to joining the athletics department staff at Richmond, he worked in the athletics department at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla., for five years. He was the director of internal operations and business manager for three years, the sports information director for one year and a graduate assistant in athletics development for one year.

Platt earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management from Nova Southeastern University in 2001 and his master’s degree in business administration from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2004. He lettered four years in basketball at Nova Southeastern and was the team’s captain, Most Valuable Player and a first-team all-conference selection in 2001.

Platt assumes his responsibilities at Virginia on Jan. 28.
