ATLANTA – Virginia senior guard Sean Singletary (Philadelphia, Pa.) is one of the top 30 midseason candidates for the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, one of the nation’s most prestigious college basketball awards. The list was voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country.
Singletary was also selected to the 30 player midseason list for the John R. Wooden Award.
Singletary has led Virginia to an 11-7 record this season heading into Wednesday’s (Jan. 30) game at Maryland. He ranks third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring at 18.1 points a game and his 6.7 assists a game rank first in the ACC and sixth nationally. He is the only player in the ACC to have a 30-point game, a 10-rebound game, and a 10-assist game this season.
Singletary is one of six ACC players on the top 30 list. North Carolina’s Wayne Ellington, Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson, Duke’s Demarcus Nelson and Boston College’s Tyrese Rice were also selected.
The four finalists will be announced on CBS on March 23 and the winner will be announced on April 6 at the 2008 NCAA Final Four in San Antonio.
