ATLANTA, Ga.The Virginia men’s basketball team looks to bounce back from Saturday’s (March 1) two-point loss at Miami when the Cavaliers play at Georgia Tech on Monday (March 3). The game is the second in three days for UVa and is the middle game in a three games in five days stretch for the Cavaliers. Virginia concludes the stretch with a home game against Duke on Wednesday (March 5) at John Paul Jones Arena.

Monday’s game at Georgia Tech is rescheduled from Feb. 21 when a leak in the roof at Alexander Memorial Coliseum caused postponement of the game scheduled for that night. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be televised by the Regional Sports Networks (Comcast SportsNet).

With the game at Georgia Tech now scheduled for Monday, the “Cavalier Call-In” radio show with head coach Dave Leitao is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at Wild Wing Caf in Charlottesville. The program will also air on the normal affiliates on the Virginia Sports Network.

The Cavaliers enter the Georgia Tech game with an overall record of 13-13 and a 3-10 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference after Saturday’s 95-93 loss at Miami. The loss ended a two-game UVa winning streak.

The Hurricanes led Virginia by as many as 15 points in the second half and led by 10 (91-81) with 1:46 remaining to play before a nine-point UVa run cut the lead to one with 39 seconds left. A three-point basket by Lance Hurdle and a free throw by Jack McClinton of Miami offset a layup and a free throw by Virginia’s Sean Singletary and enabled the Hurricanes to hang on for the two-point victory.

Singletary, a senior guard, scored a career-high 41 points against the Hurricanes. He also had nine rebounds, three assists, a steal and no turnovers in the game. Singletary was 12-25 from the field, including 4-8 from three-point range, and he made 13 of 14 shots from the free throw line. During his collegiate career, he has now scored 20 or more points in a game 40 times, including 13 times this season.

Singletary is averaging 19.8 points and 5.8 assists a game this season. He has scored in double figures in 48 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the ACC.

Singletary’s 41 points against Miami are the most scored by a Virginia player since Donald Hand scored 41 against NC State during the 1998-99 season.

Junior forward Laurynas Mikalauskas had the second double-double of his collegiate career in the Miami game. He finished with career-high totals of 16 points and 13 rebounds against the Hurricanes. Mikalauskas was 7-10 from the field and made both of his free throws in the game. He is shooting 71.4 percent (15-21) from the field in the last four games.

Sophomore forward Jamil Tucker added a career-high 14 points for the Cavaliers against Miami.

In addition to Singletary, other players averaging in double figures for Virginia this season are junior forward/guard Mamadi Diane and senior forward Adrian Joseph. Diane is averaging 11.5 points a game, while Joseph is averaging 10.8 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds a game.

Georgia Tech enters Monday’s game with an overall record of 12-15 and a 5-8 record in the ACC. The Yellow Jackets are coming off an 87-79 overtime victory at home against Wake Forest on Saturday (March 1). The win snapped a five-game Georgia Tech losing streak.

Senior guard Anthony Morrow leads Georgia Tech in scoring with an average of 14.4 points a game. Senior forward Jeremis Smith is averaging 10.0 points a game and leads the Yellow Jackets in rebounding with an average of 7.0 rebounds a game. Junior guard Lewis Clinch is averaging 9.6 points a game.

Paul Hewitt is in his eighth season as the head coach at Georgia Tech and his 11th season as a collegiate head coach. His Georgia Tech teams have compiled an overall record of 139-110 and participated in the NCAA Tournament four times, advancing to the championship game in 2004.

Georgia Tech leads the series with Virginia 37-28 and the Yellow Jackets have won 16 of the last 20 games in the series. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Cavaliers 92-82 in overtime earlier this season (Jan. 27) at John Paul Jones Arena. In games played in Atlanta in the series, Georgia Tech leads 22-7.
