GREENSBORO, N.C.Virginia’s Sean Singletary is the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his play in the Cavaliers’ three conference games last week. It is the fifth time in his career and the second time this season Singletary has received the award.
The 6-0 senior guard from Philadelphia, Pa., averaged 20.7 points and 7.0 assists a game in the three games. He made 43.2 percent (19-44) of his shots from the field and 95.2 percent (20-21) of his free throws. He also had eight rebounds and four steals in 106 minutes of action in the three games.
In Virginia’s 76-74 win at Georgia Tech on March 3, Singletary scored a team-high 17 points and had a team-high six assists. He also had three steals and one rebound in 33 minutes of playing time.
In the Cavaliers’ 86-70 home loss to Duke on March 5, Singletary scored a team-high 18 points and had a game-high seven assists. He also had one rebound in 35 minutes of action.
In Virginia’s 91-76 home victory over Maryland on March 9, Singletary scored a game-high 27 points and had a team-high eight assists. His 27 points enabled him to become the fifth player in Virginia men’s basketball history to score 2,000 career points as he finished the game with 2,002 career points. He also had six rebounds and one steal in 38 minutes of playing time.
Jeff Teague of Wake Forest was named the ACC Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.
