Schwimer Earns First-Team All-Atlantic Region Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia right-handed relief pitcher Michael Schwimer (Sr., Alexandria, Va.) has been selected to the ABCA All-Atlantic Region First Team, as awarded by the American Baseball Coaches Association. The region consists of 39 schools on the East Coast.

Schwimer went 3-1 with a 1.72 earned run average this year and had an ACC-high 14 saves. His saves total tied the single-season school record, set by Casey Lambert in 2005.

In 31.1 innings and 26 games this season, Schwimer allowed six earned runs, 19 hits and 10 walks while striking out 36. Opponents batted .178 against him, and he gave up just three extra-base hits all season.

Schwimer currently ranks sixth nationally in saves this season. He finished his Virginia career ranked second in appearances (93) and third in saves (16). Following the season, Schwimer was drafted in the 14th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies.
