CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia right-handed pitcher Andrew Carraway (Jr., Marietta, Ga.) has been named the Coca-Cola Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 15-21 following two stellar performances.
Carraway, playing for the Hyannis Mets, pitched his team to two victories last week. Carraway worked the first 5.1 innings to beat Falmouth, 1-0, on June 16, and followed with a five-inning stint and a 4-1 decision over Wareham on Saturday. He did not allow a run in either start and he gave up just seven hits in the 10.1 innings he pitched.
Against Falmouth, he struck out seven and did not walk a batter. He whiffed seven more batters against Wareham while issuing a single base on balls. The 6-2, 200-pound junior has picked up right where he left off with the Cavaliers this spring. In 15 appearances spanning 75.1 innings, he struck out 87 and walked only 12.
