CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Five members of the Virginia field hockey team, including Kaitlyn Hiltz, Shelly Edmonds, Paige Selenski, Rachel Jennings and Michelle Vittese, have been invited to attend USA Field Hockey’s Junior National Camp. The elite camp, which is currently being held in Boston, is where the U21 and U18 national teams are selected.
“We are very happy there are five players in contention to make a national team,” head coach Michele Madison said. “We are really impressed with the level commitment from the players this summer to make themselves better and become the best they can be.”
Hiltz and Edmonds, both second years at Virginia, were two college players selected to the U21 national team tryout, while Vittese and Selenski were invited as members of the 2007 U21 national team. Jennings, meanwhile, was selected as one of the high school seniors from the U19 group. Vittese, Selenski and Jennings will play together for the first time on the same team at Junior National Camp.
The top 50 athletes were selected from the National Futures Championship and invited to attend Junior National Camp. The camp runs in conjunction with college level athletes selected from the High Performance Pipeline. Selection opportunities that exist from the Junior National Camp include the selection of the U21 National Team, USA/Canada Challenge Cup Teams, and the selection into Olympic Development Select.
