The 4×800 quartet ran a 9:31.30 to win the On Track Invitational at Liberty University, finishing more than 39 seconds in front of the second-place team. At the Penn State National Open, Ayla Smith qualified for the semifinals of the 60-meter hurdle competition at the Penn State National Open, where she ran a personal-best 8.63 and move into a tie for the No. 2 position all-time in school history. Alexa Manning tossed a personal best 54’ 9.25” and moved up to the No. 3 spot all-time in Virginia history. The women’s distance medley team of Huma Husain, Jen Hovland, Kristie Chapman and Emily Harrison finished second, running an 11:36.48.
The Cavaliers will continue the competition tomorrow, Saturday, January 26, in both Lynchburg, Va., and State College, Pa.
