CHARLOTTESVILLE CBS Outdoor and Virginia Sports Properties, the multi-media rights partner of the University of Virginia athletics department, announced today that former Cavalier point guard Cory Alexander has joined the Virginia Sports Network. Alexander will serve as analyst with play-by-play announcer Dave Koehn on Virginia broadcasts during the 2008-09 men’s basketball season.

Alexander was a first round draft choice of the San Antonio Spurs in 1995 and played in seven seasons with four teams in the NBA. He played for Virginia from 1992-95, scoring 1,286 points (15.1 ppg.) and handing out 401 assists. Alexander ranks eighth on UVa’s career assists list and 24th on the Cavaliers’ career scoring list. He was a second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection in 1993.

Alexander replaces longtime analyst and former UVa player Jim Hobgood. Hobgood has been the analyst on Virginia men’s basketball broadcasts for the last 12 seasons. He was a three-year letterman for the Cavaliers from 1971-73.

“We are excited to have Cory Alexander join our men’s basketball broadcasts,” said Jim Kuznar, general manager of Virginia Sports Properties. “We are also very appreciative of the many contributions Jim Hobgood has made to the network during the last 12 years.”

Virginia’s 2008-09 men’s basketball season begins on Nov. 16 when in-state rival VMI visits the John Paul Jones Arena.
