UVa Golfers Share First-Round Lead at Tar Heel Invitational

Chapel Hill, NC The eighth-ranked Virginia women’s golf team shares the lead with 23rd-ranked Wake Forest after the first round of play at the Tar Heel Invitational played at North Carolina’s Finley Golf Course. The Cavaliers and Deacons shot 6-over 294 to finish five shots ahead of third-place North Carolina.
Virginia was led by a pair of 1-under 71 scores by seniors Jennie Arseneault and Lene Krog. They are tied with three other players for first place after the opening round. Junior Whitney Neuhauser carded a 1-over 73 to finish the first 18 holes in a tie for 10th.
The Cavaliers’ other scores included a 79 by Calle Nielson and an 80 by Joy Kim. Nielson is in 49th place while Kim is tied for 59th.
The 18-team field competing at the tournament includes 10 teams currently ranked in Golfweek’s top-25 poll. Sixth ranked Vanderbilt, the only team with a higher ranking than UVa, was in sixth place at 302.
The second round of the 54-hole tournament takes place Saturday with the final round set for Sunday.
