Tonight’s Virginia victory is the most lopsided in the series since the Cavaliers defeated Maryland 48-13 at Scott Stadium in 2002.
The game marked the first time Maryland has been shutout since a 16-0 loss at Virginia in 2004. It is just the third shutout during Ralph Friedgen’s tenure as Maryland’s head coach in 93 games (since 2001).
UVa’s shutout is its second this season (16-0 vs. Richmond) and the ninth during head coach Al Groh’s tenure (93 games, since 2001). It is also the first time Virginia has had at least two shutouts in a season since having two (Duke, North Carolina) two years ago.
Tonight’s game marked the first time this season Maryland failed to score in the first half of a game.
Virginia’s 427 yards of total offense was a season high, bettering last week’s total of 304 at Duke. It is the Cavaliers’ most since compiling 439 yards in last season’s win over Maryland in College Park.
UVa TB Cedric Peerman finished with 110 yards rushing to become the first UVa running back this season to rush for 100 yards in a game. It is the fourth 100-yard game in his career. His season total in three games coming into tonight’s game was 96 yards.
UVa WR Kevin Ogletree recorded his second 100-yard receiving game this season, finishing with 100 yards. He also had 103 yards vs. Richmond. It marks the third 100-yard game in his career and two have been against Maryland.
Ogletree had two TD receptions for the second time in his UVa career. The other was also against Maryland in 2006.
UVa quarterback Marc Verica’s 226 passing yards are a career high, as are his two touchdown passes and 25 completions.

UVa redshirt freshman TE Andrew Devlin recorded his first career reception tonight.
Freshman Austin Pasztor made his first career start tonight for Virginia. He is the first true freshman to start on the offensive line for the Cavaliers since OG Branden Albert did in 2005.
Curt Orshoski played in his first UVa game during tonight’s contest (on the kickoff team). He becomes the 20th Cavalier player to appear in their first college game this season.
UVa freshman defensive back Rodney McLeod switched to No. 28 during tonight’s game instead of his usual No. 26 jersey because he was on the field at the same time as Cary Koch (No. 26) on special teams.
Former UVa consensus All-American defensive end Chris Long and two-time NCAA men’s singles champion Somdev Devvarman raised the Power of Orange flag during today’s pregame festivities.
