Chapel Hill, NC The eighth-ranked Virginia women’s golf team continued its splendid play this fall with a fourth-place finish at the 18-team Tar Heel Invitational at North Carolina’s Finley Golf Course. The field included 10 teams that are ranked in Golfweek’s top-25 this week.
The Cavaliers shot 11-over 297 during Sunday’s final round for a 54-hole total of 893. Sixth-ranked Vanderbilt was one shot ahead of the Virginia on the final leaderboard. Wake Forest used a final round 291 to cruise to the team title at 876. North Carolina was second at 888.
Virginia was led by the seventh-place finish of senior Jennie Arseneault. She posted a 1-over 73 Sunday to finish at 4-over 220. It was her second top-10 finish of the year and the seventh of her career.
Junior Whitney Neuhauser was 13th at 223, including a 77 during the final round. Lene Krog was 28th at 227 after shooting 78 Sunday. Calle Nielson was 38th at 229. She shot 75 for the second consecutive day during the final round. Joy Kim had her best day, recording a team-best 72, to move up to 40th overall at 230.
Wake Forest golfers Jean Chua and Natalie Sheary,, and North Carolina’s Catherine O’Donnell tied for first at even par 216.
The Cavaliers return to play Oct. 24 for the three-day Derby tournament at Auburn.
