CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA Clint Sintim has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week for his play in Virginia’s 31-0 win over Maryland Saturday night at Scott Stadium as the Cavaliers ended a two-game losing streak.
Sintim had another disruptive performance as the Cavaliers pitched a shutout over one of the hottest teams in the conference. He tied his season high with seven tackles, including six solo stops, and broke up a pass.
He dropped quarterback Chris Turner for an 11-yard sack on a key third-down play from midfield in the third quarter to force a Maryland punt. The senior from Woodbridge, Va., leads the ACC and is tied for fifth nationally in sacks with an average 1.00/g.
Virginia held Maryland to just 79 yards rushing, well below its season average (182.4) and by far its lowest total of the season and under 100 yards for the first time all year. Overall Maryland’s 302 yards of total offense was 62 yards fewer than its season average.
Sintim has been involved in 22 career sacks and is tied with former roommate Chris Long for seventh in Virginia history.
The Cavaliers return to action at home this Saturday against East Carolina. The game kicks off at noon and will be televised on the Raycom/ACC network.
