Cavaliers Advance on Day Two of ITA All-America Qualifying

TULSA, Okla — A pair of Cavaliers advanced to the third round of qualifying of the ITA All-America Championships Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) both won second round matches and are one win away from making the main draw.

Shabaz upset No. 53 ranked Sascha Heinemann of Hawaii 6-2, 6-3 in the second round on Tuesday.He will meet No. 87 ranked Jay Goldman of Arizona in the final round of qualifying on Wednesday.

Barrick topped Tyler Hochwalt of Florida 6-4, 6-2 in the second round. He will play Tobias Wernet of Minnesota for a spot in the main draw on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the qualifying doubles draw began.and the team of Shabaz and Dominic Inglot (London, England), the No. 5 seed, fell to Emauel Brighiu and Adrian Simon of TCU 8-4.

Qualifying concludes Wednesday with the main draw set to begin on Thursday. Inglot is in the main draw for singles due to his preseason ranking, while Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) received a wild card to the main draw by winning the ITA Summer Championship. The team of Singh and Barrick also received a wild card into the doubles main draw by winning the ITA Summer Championship.
