CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Paige Selenski, a first-year on the Virginia field hockey team, was named the national rookie of the week Monday by womensfieldhockey.com.

Selenski, a native of Shaverton, Pa., opened the week with a two-goal, three-assist performance in the 7-1 win over in-state rival Richmond before scoring twice in the 4-3 extra time loss to Maryland. Selenski is the only player in the nation thus far to have scored twice against the Terps, who rank third in the nation in goals against average.

Selenski’s 13 goals lead the Cavaliers and are also tied for third in the conference.

Virginia (10-3, 1-1 ACC), ranked ninth in the latest womensfieldhockey.com poll, returns to action Saturday against No. 7 Iowa in University Park, Pa.
