TULSA, Okla — A pair of Cavaliers advanced to the main draw of the ITA All-America Championships with wins in the final round of qualfiying Wednesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) won Wednesday and join Dominic Inglot (London, England) and Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) in the field of 64.
Shabaz topped No. 87 ranked Jay Goldman of Arizona in the final round of qualifying on Wednesday, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. In the first round of the main draw, he will play No. 69 ranked Chris Clayton of Harvard.
Barrick defeated Tobias Wernet of Minnesota for a spot in the main draw on Wednesday, 6-3, 6-2. He will meet fellow qualifier, No. 58 Bram ten Berge of Mississippi, in the main draw first round.
Inglot will open play in the tournament with a first-round match against qualifier Wil Spencer of Texas A&M, ranked No. 102 nationally. Singh, who received a wild card into the main draw by winning the ITA Summer Championship, will play qualifier Raony Carvalho of Texas Tech in the first round.
Barrick and Singh received a wild card into the doubles main draw by winning the ITA Summer Championship. They will open play on Thursday against Ross Cunningham and Victor Kolik of Tulsa in the first round.
The main draw begins on Thursday and the tournament runs through Sunday.
