CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia Director of Track and Field Jason Vigilante announced today the 2009 indoor and outdoor track and field schedule for the Cavaliers’ men’s and women’s teams. Highlighted by two home events, the schedule consists of 21 meets from December through June.
The Cavaliers will open the 2009 indoor season with three-straight in-state meets, beginning in Lynchburg, Va., on Dec. 4 at the Liberty Kick Off. Virginia will then spend consecutive weekends in Blacksburg, Va., to open the New Year. The Cavaliers will participate at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Jan. 9-10 and then at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Jan. 16-17. The Cavaliers will travel to State College, Pa. for the Penn State National Invitational (Jan. 30-31) and to New York City, for the Armory Duals (Feb. 14) during the course of the indoor season.
The three-day ACC Indoor Championships will take place in Blacksburg, Va., from Feb. 26-28. The Virginia Tech Last Chance and Alex Wilson Invitational will be held on March 6 and 7 with the NCAA Indoor Championships set for College Station, Texas on March 13-14.
The team will swing into the outdoor season on March 21, hosting the UVa Spring Swashbuckle. The Raleigh Relays and Stanford Invitational are scheduled for March 27-28, before the Cavaliers take a break from invitational style competition and head to Columbia, Mo., for the second-annual Missouri Jefferson Dual.
The Cavaliers’ final meet in Charlottesville, Va., the Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational, will take place on April 10-11, before the squads head to Miami, Fla., for the three-day ACC Outdoor Championships, April 16-18.
Following the conference championships, Virginia will compete in the prestigious Penn Relays, in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 23-25, and the UNC Elite Meet on May 8.
The IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Championships will once again be held in Princeton, N.J., from May 15-17. The NCAA East Regional will take place on May 29-30 in Greensboro, N.C., and the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be in Fayetteville, Ark., running from June 10-14.
The 2009 USATF Junior and Senior National Championships will be held in Eugene, Ore., on June 24-28.
