UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. The 10th-ranked Virginia field hockey team (10-5) fell to No. 13 Penn State (9-4) Sunday in University Park, Pa. The shutout was just the second of the season for the Cavaliers, who have dropped their last three games.
The lone goal of the game came in the in the first half. Allison Scola dribbled down to the endline and crossed the ball in front of the cage to Christine Dudek, who put it in for the score.
Virginia outshot Penn State 10-8 for the game, including a 6-4 advantage in the second half. Vittese paced the Virginia offense with three shots, all of which were on target. Penn State goalkeeper Jen Beaumont recorded seven saves in the contest.
The Cavaliers also had a 9-7 edge on penalty corners.
Virginia returns to action with a 6 p.m. game Thursday at home against Longwood.
