CHAPEL HILL , N.C. — The Virginia men’s tennis team had two singles players and one doubles team advance on Sunday at the ITA Mideast Regional Championships. Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Dominic Inglot (London, England) advanced to the semifinals of singles and the team of Barrick and Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) advanced to the doubles finals.
Inglot, the No. 1 seed and defending champion, won a pair of matches Sunday. He defeated Kiril Dimitrov of Duke 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 16 before topping Yoann Re of Virginia Tech 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. He will play Damon Gooch of Elon in the semifinals on Monday.
Barrick, the No. 9 seed, topped No. 8 seed Nicolas Delgado of Virginia Tech 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 in the round of 16 before advancing to the semfinals when his quarterfinal opponent, No. 3 seed Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech had to retire.
Barrick and Singh, the No. 5 seed, scored an 8-6 upset of No. 1 seed and No. 2 nationally ranked Cory Parr and Steven Forman of Wake Forest. Forman and Parr were NCAA quarterfinalists last season. Later in the day, they topped teammates Inglot and Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) 8-6 in the semifinals.
The team of Inglot and Shabaz, the No. 3 seed in doubles, advanced to the semifinals with an 8-4 win over Chris Price and Torsten Wietoska of Duke in the quarterfinals.
The tournament concludes Monday.
