CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA Jon Copper has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his play in the Cavaliers’ 16-13 overtime win over North Carolina at home last Saturday. The win is the Cavaliers’ third in a row as they improve to 4-3 this season and 2-1 in the ACC.
The 6-0, 230-pound Roanoke, Va., native turned in one of the best performances of his career as the Cavaliers defeated UNC for the 14th consecutive time at home. He was in on a career-high 16 tackles to help the UVa defense hold an explosive Tar Heel offense in check. He made 10 solo stops and also had a tackle for loss. Copper’s 16 tackles are the most by a Cavalier in six years.
Virginia returns to action this Saturday with a match-up vs. Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised by ESPNU.
