CHARLOTTESVILLE The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team returns to action Friday night as it hosts No. 5 North Carolina with first place in the ACC on the line. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at Klckner Stadium and the contest will be broadcast online by ACC Select.
Friday’s game will have a Raising Cane’s Attendance Challenge. If the Klckner Stadium women’s soccer record crowd of 2,011 is eclipsed, all fans in attendance will receive a coupon for a free combo meal with the purchase of a combo meal of equal or lesser value. Friday’s game is also Charlottesville/Albemarle County Schools Book Cover Night. Kids who bring the coupon from their UVa book cover will be able to purchase their ticket at the group rate of $4.
The Cavaliers (12-2-1 overall, 6-1-0 ACC) are coming off a 2-1 win over No. 14 Boston College on Sunday. The victory extended Virginia’s home unbeaten streak to 20 games (18-0-2), dating back to the 2006 season. The win was also the Cavaliers’ first ever victory against the Eagles.
The Tar Heels (14-1-1 overall, 7-0-0 ACC) haven’t played since a 5-0 win at NC State on Oct. 17. North Carolina enters the game on a 10-game winning streak and has won 15 consecutive ACC regular season games.
Virginia is looking for its first-ever win over North Carolina, with the Tar Heels holding a 32-0-2 advantage in the series. North Carolina has won each of the previous 25 regular season matchups, including all 11 in Charlottesville. Last year the teams met twice, with the Tar Heels scoring a 1-0 overtime win in Chapel Hill and advancing in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie in an ACC semifinal in Orlando.
