A defender from Falls Church, Va., Howard Turk has started all 13 of the Cavaliers’ games in 2008. UVa travels to Duke on Saturday for a 7 p.m. match.
Question: What made you decide to come to UVa?
Turk: It is close to home and the academics are really good. It is the perfect fit for me.
Question: Have you found that your National Team experience helped prepare you for collegiate soccer?
Turk: I think it definitely helped me. It was good to be exposed to that level and I learned a lot from playing against older players. It got me prepared and ready.
Question: Do you have any personal or team goals for the rest of the season?
Turk: Hopefully the NCAA championship, and the ACC championship that would be great!
Question: What is your favorite and least favorite part about playing defense?
Turk: My favorite part is tackling. My least favorite thing on defense is probably one-on-ones. They are a very hard thing to handle.
Question: You are the only player on the team to have started all 13 games so far this season to what do you attribute that?
Turk: I am just working really hard to keep that starting spot. I want to keep this good thing going as long as I can.
Question: What do you like to do when you are not playing soccer?
Turk: I really just like to relax and hang out listen to music and play video games.
Question: Has anything surprised you about your first semester of college?
Turk: I expected the work to be hard, but that still surprised me. I am still having a great time here at UVa, though. It’s a lot of fun.
