Charlottesville, VA The No. 7-ranked Virginia women’s golf team returns to action this week when it plays at the 2008 Derby Invitational at the par-72, 6,301-yard Auburn University Club at Yarbrough Farms in Auburn, Ala. The 54-hole tournament runs Friday through Sunday. Play begins at 8 a.m. for the first two rounds and Sunday’s final round features an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
The 17-team field includes No. 2 Arizona State, No. 4 Georgia, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Virginia, No. 12 Auburn and No. 13 LSU, in addition to squads from Central Florida, Coastal Carolina, Florida State, Furman, Kansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tulane and Chattanooga.
The Virginia lineup will be the same as the team’s last outing at North Carolina’s Tar Heel Invitational Jennie Arseneault, Whitney Neuhauser, Lene Krog, Calle Nielson and Joy Kim. Kristen Simpson will compete as a non-scoring individual.
Neuhauser currently leads the team with a 72.67 stroke average. Arseneault, who has led the team in scoring in two of three events, is second on the team with a 73.22 stroke average. The Cavaliers have finished in the top four off all three fall events this year.
