Auburn, AL The No. 7 Virginia women’s golf team placed second at Auburn’s The Derby in the team’s final regular tournament of the fall season. The Cavaliers finished at 887 including a final round score of 12-over 300. UVa was 18 shots behind No. 2 ranked Arizona State, which won with a score of 869. No. 6 Alabama was third at 892.
Virginia was paced by the top-10 finishes of Whitney Neuhauser and Jennie Arseneault. Neuhauser was the runner-up at 5-under 211. Arizona State’s Anna Nordquist took medalist honors at 207. Arseneault was sixth overall at 218. She shot 2-over 74 during the final round.
Neuhauser’s finish was her second runner-up performance this fall. She was second at the Cougar Classic in Charleston in mid-September when she shot a career-best 208. The tournament was the fourth top-10 of her career. For Arseneault, her final standing marked the eighth time she has posted a top-10 during her career. Her score was one shot off her best tournament finish as a collegiate.
UVa’s Calle Nielson was 28th at 229 while Joy Kim and Lene Krog tied for 40th at 233. Kristen Simpson, playing as a non-scoring individual, was 53rd at 235.
The Cavaliers will compete in the National Golf Coaches Association’s Match Play Championship Nov. 2-4 in Kissimmee, Fla. in the team’s final fall event.
