CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA Tackle Will Barker has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Offensive Lineman of the Week for his play in Virginia’s 24-17 come-from-behind win over No. 21 Georgia Tech Saturday in Atlanta. The win, Virginia’s second in a row over a ranked team, is the Cavaliers’ fourth straight as they improve to 5-3 this season and 3-1 in the ACC.
The 6-7, 315-pound Bryn Mawr, Pa., native continued his improved play that has coincided with the team’s winning streak. He finished with the second-highest grade among the linemen while being matched up against Georgia Tech’s standout ends Michael Johnson and Derrick Morgan.
Barker did not give up a sack as Virginia completed 29 of 39 passes for a season-high 270 yards. The Cavaliers also rushed for 126 yards against a defense that was allowing just over 100 yards per game. The Cavaliers’ 396 yards of offense was nearly 150 more than the Yellow Jackets allowed coming into the game. Virginia’s ability to run well and pass efficiently allowed UVa to build an eight-and-a-half minute advantage in time of possession to comeback from an early 11-point deficit and win.
Virginia returns to action at home this Saturday against Miami. The game is scheduled to kickoff at noon and will be televised by the Raycom/ACC network.
