BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Virginia women’s tennis team had a strong second day of the Hokie Fall Invitational at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Cavaliers had two singles players advance to flight finals along with advancing one doubles team to a flight final.
In singles, first-year Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) won a pair of matches to reach the final. In the quarterfinals she topped Tara Byrne of East Tennessee State 7-5, 6-1 before defeating Inga Beermann of Virginia Tech in straight sets in the semfinals. She will play No. 63 ranked Yevgeniya Stupek of East Tennessee State in the finals. Also in Flight A, Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.) fell in three sets to Jessica Brouwer of Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals.
In Flight B, Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio) topped Katie Blow of Virginia Tech 6-4k 1-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and Shaina Singh of Chattanooga in straight sets in the semifinals. In Flight C, Maggie Yahner (Las Vegas, Nev.) won her quarterfinal 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 against Molly McDevitt of Davidson, but had to default in the semifinals.
In doubles, the team of Fraser and Yahner advanced to the Flight A final with an 8-6 win over Beermann and Blakely of Virginia Tech in the semifinals.
The tournament concludes Sunday in Blacksburg.
