Charlottesville, VA – The Virginia women’s golf team plays its final event of the fall season this weekend at the 2008 Women’s Collegiate Match Play Championship at Kissimmee’s (Fla.) Ginn Reunion Resort.The tournament takes place Sunday through Tuesday.
The 16-team field includes 13 teams ranked in Golfweek’s current top-25 poll. The lineup is: No. 6 Alabama, No. 20 Arizona, No. 12 Auburn, No. 15 Denver, No. 9 Duke, No. 25 Florida, No. 4 Georgia, No. 22 Kent State, No. 21 Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Tulsa, No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 USC and No. 8 Vanderbilt.
On Day One (Nov. 2), all 16 teams will compete in a 36 Hole Stroke Play Competition. The results of this competition will be used to seed teams 1 16 for the Match Play Competition with the top eight competing in the Championship Bracket. Match play competition begins on Nov. 3 with two 18-hole matches followed by the Championship Final on Nov. 4. The event is the only match play championship on the collegiate schedule.
The Cavalier lineup will include Whitney Neuhauser, Jennie Arseneault, Calle Nielson, Joy Kim and Kristen Simpson. Eleana Collins will also compete during the match play portion of the event.
