CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia women’s basketball team is ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches preseason polls. The Cavaliers tip off the 2008-09 campaign with a Nov. 7 exhibition game against DT3 at John Paul Jones Arena at 7 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com by clicking here, and may also be purchased by phone at (800) 542-8821 or in person at the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Virginia returns three starters from last year’s team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, including preseason All-ACC selection and Wade Watch member Monica Wright. An AP Honorable Mention All-American last season after leading the Cavaliers in scoring (17.6 points per game) and steals (2.4 per game), Wright was a member of the All-ACC second team, ACC all-defensive team and ACC all-tournament team as a sophomore.
The Cavaliers, picked to finish fourth in the ACC, also return Lyndra Littles and Aisha Mohammed in the frontcourt. Littles averaged 16.8 points per game and Mohammed nearly averaged a double-double with 13.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in 2007-08.
Virginia will play a Nov. 7 exhibition against DT3 before the season-opener on Nov. 14 vs. High Point. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. in John Paul Jones Arena.
