Rowing Announces 2008-09 Captains

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Amanda Chase (Woodbridge, Va.), Lauren Hutchins (North Vancouver, Canada) and Augusta Stratos (Charlottesville, Va.) have been named captains of the 2008-09 Virginia women’s rowing team.
Chase, a senior, rowed with the second varsity eight crew last spring that finished fourth at the 2008 NCAA Championships. That crew also won the ACC Championship and finished second at the South/Central Regional Championships.
Hutchins, a junior, was a second team Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America and first team all-south region selection in 2008 while rowing with the varsity eight. Also an All-ACC selection, Hutchins helped the varsity eight to the ACC Championship and the award for ACC Crew of the Year. The varsity eight swept each of its races at the South/Central Regional Championships and finished eighth at the NCAA Championships.
Stratos, a senior, was an All-ACC selection in 2008 and rowed with the varsity eight crew that won the ACC title and ACC Crew of the Year honors. She was a member of the varsity eight crew that won each of its races at the South/Central Regional Championships and eighth at the NCAA Championships.
The Virginia rowing team continues its fall season on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it hosts George Washington and Georgetown for a novices competition. The races begin at 11 a.m. on the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlottesville, Va.
