CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Floor Vogels, a freshman back on the Virginia field hockey team, has been tabbed the ACC Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Her first league recognition comes after the final week of the regular season.
Vogels scored the game-winning goal in No. 13 Virginia’s 4-3 win over No. 4 ranked Duke on Saturday. She netted her sixth goal of the season with just over 13 minutes remaining in the match. It was her third game-winning goal of the year. Vogels also had an assist, taking part in the Cavaliers third goal of the match.
The 13th-ranked Cavaliers (12-7, 2-3 ACC) earned the No. 4 seed and will play fifth-seeded Duke (14-4, 2-3) in the first round of the ACC Tournament that begins Thursday in Durham, N.C. First and second round games of the event will be shown live on ACC Select, while the championship will be a tape-delay broadcast on RSN.
