CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Liz Shaw, a second-year member of the Virginia women’s swimming team, has been tabbed the ACC Performer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. Her second career league recognition is the first for the Virginia women this season.
A Richmond, Va., native, Shaw helped Virginia to a 188-110 win over in-state rival Virginia Tech last week. She broke a seven-year old pool record in the 200 fly to take first place in 1:57.53. It was her first NCAA “B” qualifying time in the event this year. Shaw also took first place in the 100 fly (54.44) and swam in the first-place 200 medley relay (1:41.95) as the Cavaliers improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.
The Virginia women are back in action Friday at Kentucky. The Cavalier men will face No. 7 Tennessee Thursday before swimming against the Wildcats.
