CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The 13th-ranked Virginia men’s swimming and diving teams will battle seventh-ranked Tennessee at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
Virginia is coming off an ACC win last week over Virginia Tech at home. Tennessee, meanwhile, is fresh off a dual-meet victory on the road over Kentucky.
Virginia and Tennessee have met every season since 1999. Despite splitting the first two meetings, the rest of the series is marked by streaks. The Vols won the next three, then the Cavaliers won back-to-back dual meets in 2004 and 2005, the lone Virginia win in Knoxville. Tennessee has won the last two and looks to win three in a row for a second time.
Since the programs began meeting annually in 1999, the dual meet has turned into a friendly rivalry. Additionally, Virginia assistant coach Chip Kline is a Tennessee alumnus and former Vol assistant coach. Kline also spent four years as the director of Knoxville-based Tennessee Aquatics swim club.
On Friday, both the men’s and women’s teams will compete at Kentucky. The event is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. from Lexington.
