Gabe Bernstein joined the University of Virginia Academic Affairs staff on July 28, 2008. He is the academic coordinator for men’s soccer, softball and women’s tennis.
Bernstein, who earned his master of education degree in athletic counseling from Springfield College in May of 2008, worked as a collegiate athletic counselor at Springfield from 2006-08. Among the teams he worked with included football, men’s lacrosse and women’s track and field. As a counselor, Bernstein provided academic and athletic counseling for student-athletes. He also served as a “Play It Smart” academic coach in the AmeriCorps Program in 2006-07 at The High School of Commerce in Springfield, Massachusetts.
While working toward his master’s degree, Bernstein also served as a graduate associate in the Springfield College athletic counseling program, as a graduate assistant coach with the Springfield women’s soccer team and as a youth sport athletic counselor with the Western United Football Club.
Bernstein earned his bachelor’s degree in athletic administration from The Pennsylvania State University in December of 2004. A former student-athlete himself, Gabe played intercollegiate soccer for the Nittany Lions, captaining the team his junior and senior year while also earning academic all Big-Ten honors. Bernstein played two seasons of professional soccer in the United Soccer League for the Charleston Battery and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds from 2004-06.
