Charlottesville, VA – Virginia freshman golfer Ben Kohles (Cary, N.C.) has been named an honorable mention selection to the 2008 Rolex Junior All-America team by the American Junior Golf Association. A total of 12 players were first-team selections, 12 were named second team and Kohles was one of 24 to be honorable mention.
Kohles was the No. 1 ranked junior in North Carolina by the Carolinas Golf Association in August. He was also ranked the No. 50 junior player nationally by Golfweek. He was named the 2007 Carolinas Junior Player of the Year and All-Junior Team by the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA). He won the 2008 Carolinas Amateur Championship (top amateurs from North and South Carolina) and took top honors at the 2007 Dogwood State Junior Championship.
This fall Kohles led Virginia with a 71.82 stroke average and finished or tied for first as the Cavaliers’ scoring leader in three of four tournaments. He is ranked 90th among all individual players in the latest Golfweek standings.
