Charlottesville, VA The Virginia women’s golf team, ranked No. 5 last week, moved up one spot to fourth place in both the Golfweek and Golfstat rankings. The Cavaliers are coming off a second-place finish in the stroke play portion of the 2008 NGCA Match Play Championships. The field featured 13 teams ranked in Golfweek’s top-25 poll at the time.
The ranking is the highest ever in the program’s history.
Arizona State tops the Golfweek poll followed by UCLA and 2008 NCAA Champion USC. Wake Forest at No. 7 and Duke at No. 8 are the only other ACC teams in the top-25.
In the Golfstat poll, UCLA is ranked No. 1 followed by USC and Arizona State. Duke is No. 8 and North Carolina is No. 9.
Virginia is 28-10 against the Golfweek top-25 teams this year and 52-10 against the top-50.
Whitney Neuhauser, who was No. 8 last week, dropped to No. 11 in the Golfweek individual standings. Jennie Arseneault is ranked No. 23. Neuhauser is No. 12 in the Golfstat standings. Arseneault is No. 32 in the Golfstat poll.
