CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. On the Rivanna Reservoir Saturday, the UVa “A” novice crew rowed to a first-place finish against novice crews from Georgetown and George Washington. Coxswain Chloe Delaney, Chelsea Simpson, Hannah Silver, Mackenzie Leahy, Ana Tucker, Hampton King, Jenny Shultis, Morgan Joseph and Jen Sroba finished with a time of 14:36.12 to win the head race.
“It was a great race for the people whose first racing experience was today,” novices coach Sarah Cannon said. “It was good racing across the board and hopefully everyone is energized for next week’s Rivanna Romp.”
UVa “C” (coxswain Sarah Shanfield, Elspeth Missel, Katherine Stewart, Asia Echard, Kaeley Dawson, Anne Peck, Felicity Fisk, Robin Kendall and Miriam Kaplan) finished in sixth place with a time of 15:59.85.
UVa “B” (coxswain Stephanie Hutson, Liz Nagel, Whitney Allen, Frankie Lauritano, Emma Siegfried, Lorri Toler, Haley Hervey, Katherine Yardley and Annie Morony) finished in seventh place with a time of 16:09.94.
Rounding out the top five was Georgetown “A” (14:58.36), Georgetown lightweight “A” (15:11.84), Georgetown “B” (15:30.76) and George Washington “A” (15:47.47).
Virginia’s novice four boat (coxswain Caroline Moyer, Lauren Converse, Liza Tullis, Hannah Beller, Lauren Becker) finished with the 10th-best time of the day (17:30.00).
Virginia hosts Iowa in a scrimmage on Friday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. on the Rivanna Reservoir. On Sunday, Virginia hosts the Rivanna Romp.
