GREENSBORO, N.C.Virginia freshman guard Sylven Landesberg (Flushing, N.Y.) is the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week for his play in the Cavaliers’ 107-97 victory over Virginia Military Institute at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday (Nov. 16).
Landesberg scored 28 points, had eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals against the Keydets in 36 minutes of playing time. He made 10 of 17 (58.8 percent) shots from the floor and eight of 11 (72.7 percent) from the free throw line.
Landesberg’s 28 points were the most scored by a Virginia freshman in his first career game since the restoration of freshman eligibility in 1972-73. The previous high was 24 points by Jeff Lamp against James Madison University on Nov. 25, 1977.
Kyle Singler of Duke and Trevor Booker of Clemson were honored as ACC Co-Players of the Week.
