CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Virginia women’s soccer team continues play in the 2008 NCAA Tournament Saturday as it hosts Duke in a third round match at Klckner Stadium at 7 p.m. This season marks the fourth consecutive season that the Cavaliers have reached at least the round of 16, but the first time since 2005 that they have hosted a third round game.

Virginia is the No. 2 seed in the UCLA region and enters the game with a 15-4-3 record. Last week, the Cavaliers defeated Army 2-0 and West Virginia 3-2 in the first two rounds of the tournament. Duke, the No. 3 seed in the region, opened tournament play with a 5-1 win over Radford and followed with a 1-0 victory over William & Mary.

The Cavaliers hold a 15-10-6 edge in the all-time series after the teams played to a 0-0 tie in the regular season meeting at Klckner Stadium on October 30. Duke has won all three previous NCAA Tournament matchups between the schools. The last time the Cavaliers and Blue Devils played in the NCAA Tournament was in 2005 when Duke scored a 3-0 win in the second round at Klckner Stadium. That game is Virginia’s only home NCAA Tournament loss in the Steve Swanson era.
