Game Notes Virginia vs. Clemson

WR Kevin Ogletree has now caught at least two passes in his last 23 games (dates back to 2006 season). His 23-game streak is the second longest such streak in school history; Billy McMullen had a 25-game streak with at least two receptions from 2000-02.
Ogletree now has 57 receptions this season, the seventh most in school history. His 719 receiving yards rank 12th on UVa’s all-time list.
TE John Phillips caught one pass (for five yards). His 47 receptions this season are tied with Scott Russell (Duke, 1983) for ninth most in ACC history by a tight end.
CB Vic Hall and ILB Jon Copper led the Virginia defense with seven tackles each. For Copper it is the fourth time in the last five games he has led the team (or shared the lead), while Hall has been the leader (or shared) in two of the last three.
QB Marc Verica threw for 160 yards today and saw his 6-game streak of at least 200 yards end.
Virginia did not have a quarterback sack for the first time since the Southern California game in the season opener.
Clemson’s win is its first in Charlottesville since a 31-10 win in 2001, while the Cavaliers’ three points are their fewest in the series since losing 55-0 in the 1984 season opener.
The Virginia defense held Clemson to 192 yards, the Tigers’ second-lowest total of the season. It is also the first time Virginia gave up fewer than 200 yards of offense and lost since losing to Western Michigan in 2006 (The Broncos had 179 yards in a 17-10 win over UVa in Charlottesville.)
Virginia held C.J. Spiller, the ACC leader in all-purpose yards (148.0/g), to 57 all-purpose yards, his second-lowest total of the season.
Today’s game marked the first time since UVa’s Oct. 4 game with Maryland the opponent did not score on its first possession. The Cavaliers’ last five opponents (East Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Miami and Wake Forest) all recorded points on their initial drive of the game.
Today’s temperature was 35 degrees at kickoff. It is the coldest temperature for a kickoff of a UVa game at Scott Stadium since records are available starting in 1966.

Clemson Notes
C.J. Spiller’s 15-yard touchdown pass in the first half was his first career pass. He threw the touchdown to Tyler Grisham and it was Grisham’s first touchdown reception of the year.
Spiller has now accounted for a touchdown four different ways in his career, He is the fourth player in Clemson history to do that. He joins Chansi Stuckey, Ray Mathews and Jackie Calvert in achieving that distinction.
The last time a non-quarterback threw a touchdown pass for Clemson was in 1999 when Tony Lazzara, a kicker did it on a fake field goal against Virginia Tech.
Clemson won the turnover margin stat, 4-1 today and now has a 6-1 advantage in that category over the last two games. Clemson is 4-0 this year when it wins the turnover margin.
Michael Hamlin had an interception today, his 13th as a Clemson Tiger. He is now tied for third with Justin Miller with his 13 interceptions. Combined with his four career fumble recoveries, he now has 17 career turnovers, second in Clemson history. Terry Kinard had 19 between 1979-82 and he is the only player with more than Hamlin.
Clemson won today’s game by scoring just 13 points. It is the fewest points scored by the Tigers in a victory since a 13-9 win at South Carolina in 2005.
James Davis had 65 rushing yards today and needs 203 to become Clemson’s career leader. Aaron Kelly had 30 receiving yards and needs 99 to become Clemson’s all-time leader.
