CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. After two road match-ups against ranked opponents, No. 11 Virginia returns home to John Paul Jones Arena on Monday night when it hosts Colorado. Tip-off is 7 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on the internet by ACC Select.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast over the airwaves on WINA 1070 in the Charlottesville area with Jay James, Myron Ripley and Larry Johnson calling the action. Live audio can be accessed on the internet with V Pass. Live statistics are available at VirginiaSports.com.
Virginia (2-1) looks to bounce back from a tough road loss at No. 25 Old Dominion, 78-70, Friday night. Monica Wright led the Cavaliers with 23 points, while Chelsea Shine chipped in a career-high 16 points.
Earlier in the week, Wright poured in a career-high 35 points to key a Virginia victory at No. 6 Tennessee, 83-82. The win gave Virginia its first win over a Top 10 opponent since the 2003 season (defeated No. 8 North Carolina in the regular-season). Virginia joined an elite group of opponents who have managed to defeat Tennessee at Thompson Boling-Arena. That group includes: Florida (2006), LSU (2006, 2008), Duke (2004, 2007), Connecticut (2004, 2002, 2000, 1996), Louisiana Tech (1999, 1989), Georgia (1996, 1991), Texas (2003, 2002, 1987), Stanford (1996) and Auburn (1988).
Colorado head coach Kathy McConnell-Miller is a 1989 Virginia graduate and played under head coach Debbie Ryan. Colorado connections are also on the Cavalier roster, as sisters Jayna and Kelly Hartig hail from Highlands Ranch, Colo.
The Buffaloes (2-0) are coming off of a 93-63 victory over Colorado State on Wednesday night at home. Brittany Spears leads the team by averaging 23.5 points.
Virginia is 1-0 against Colorado, winning the sole meeting in the series on Jan. 7, 1980 (65-63 in Charlottesville, Va.)
On deck for Virginia is three games at the WBCA Classic in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cavaliers are set to face Utah (Nov. 28), host Marquette (Nov. 29) and Gonzaga (Nov. 30).
